SATISFACTORY ACADEMIC PROGRESS (SAP)

Brewster Technical College is a clock hour school. Federal Regulation mandates that students attend all the hours of each Pell Grant Payment Period to be eligible for additional funding eligibility. Students must also maintain a minimum of “C” to remain eligible for Federal Aid. Students will be evaluated after 450 clock hours or half of their program length if the program is less than 900 clock hours.

  • Your SAP is reported at the first payment time by your instructor.
  • If your SAP status is checked by your instructor as On Probation:
  1. You are no longer eligible for the Pell Grant
  2. No further charges will be made on your Pell account until your instructor informs financial aid in writing that you are no longer on probation.
  3. If you are not cleared by your instructor by the payment deadline (3 weeks before scheduled payment), no Pell grant will be disbursed in that payment period – and you may owe Brewster for institutional charges.
  4. As a reminder, you cannot get your certificate until your account is cleared.

Two SAP Requirements – Quantitative and Qualitative

  • Qualitative Requirement
    • Maintain a 2.0 GPA

  • Quantitative Requirement
    • A student must complete all hours in the first payment period to be eligible for continued funding.
    • Any student completing all hours in a program but not gaining a certificate will not be eligible for more financial aid in that program.
    • Maintaining progress towards earning a certificate
      • Attending remediation
      • Successfully passing TABE
    • Attendance based on the program requirements
      • Each instructor may establish attendance standards for students

Appeal of Probation:

The student may write a letter of appeal explaining extenuating circumstances to be considered by the Assistant Principal, Instructor, and Financial Aid Director.  Only one appeal may be considered by the school.

Federal Work Study (FWS) and Florida Work Study (FWEP)

If you are determined eligible for FWS and/or FWEP, Brewster provides both Work Study Opportunities.

  • In order to receive Federal Work Study opportunities, the student must be eligible for the Pell Grant.
  • In order to receive Florida Work Study, the student must meet the criteria set by the State of Florida.  Click on the FWEP Fact Sheet to view complete criteria.

Students must apply for work study by contacting Heather Fox at 813.276.5448 and by completing an application.  Applications are submitted to the district, and background issues are considered as a condition of employment.
